Our Hand Cruncher in Leeds DIAMOND HIRE AND SALES recently hired a concrete hand cruncher to Bramley Developments (Leeds) Ltd. The building company used this specialist piece of equipment to deconstruct two flights of concrete stairs located within a disused shop at the Crossgate Shopping Centre, Leeds. The two stair cases were 1200mm wide and ran from the ground floor to the first floor and first floor to the second. The concrete structure was free-standing and inaccessible without the use of scaffolding. Due to the close proximity of members of the public and adjacent retail businesses, which included a bank and a building society, the controlled deconstruction of the staircases had to be undertaken using a quiet, “The hand cruncher was used to good effect by two building operatives positioned on a scaffold platform who worked from the bottom of the staircases upwards. The machine nibbled away at the edge of each staircase in a controlled and measured fashion. It proved ideal as it quickly ate its way through the staircases without producing any undue noise, vibration or excessive dust. Costs were kept down as the entire undertaking was performed by my own employees negating the extra expense of specialist demolition personnel whilst at the same time enabling us to complete the building programme expeditiously. Diamond Hire and Sales provided a rapid solution for this potential problem. I would not hesitate to use their hand cruncher again or recommend it to others”, says Les Helliwell, Director of Bramley Developments.

Specialist Rock Drill Takes Off at Gatwick
Our mast rock drill recently proved useful at Gatwick Airport where a concrete foundation required removal. The foundation was adjacent to an active passenger air bridge so the project had to be completed with minimum vibration. Attached to a Brokk 180 remote controlled robot, the mast rock drill efficiently demolished the concrete section without adversely affecting use of the air bridge.
